Carolyn Shaw

Growing up in Canmore, Carolyn’s approach to both life and her yoga practice has been highly influenced by her respect and love for the outdoors. Her background in dance, downhill ski racing and psychology has helped develop her interest in the connection of mind, body and movement. A long time practitioner she finds yoga the perfect practice for mediating stress, strengthening the body and cultivating the mind. Originally a dedicated Ashtanga student, she has expanded her practice and teaching to include a variety of different styles. Recently completing her 500 hr YTT in the Modern Teacher Training program, she enjoys exploring ways to cultivate a sustainable practice for the modern day yogi; balanced with variety, fun and tradition. Her teaching style is playful with focus on alignment. Her classes are lively, accessible to all levels, and usually peppered with optional arm balances, inversions, breath work and music. She incorporates traditional teachings with modern knowledge of body movement. She invites her students to challenge and explore themselves both mentally and physically and encourages curiosity and spontaneity throughout practice.

Harumi Yokura

Born and raised in Banff I grew up doing gymnastics. I developed a love for the dance floor routine aspect of the sport which lead me to attend dance classes in Canmore, AB at Terpsichore Dance where I took ballet, jazz and hip hop. After graduating high school I decided I wanted to pursue dance further and moved to Los Angeles where I took classes with choreographers who I had always looked up to and learned a knowledge of information from. After some time I decided to put dance on the back-burner and attended a business course in Calgary at SAIT where I then realized something in my life was missing and dance was something that had always played an important role in my life. I started attending barre classes at Wildheart where I could always come to for that uplift in my life and be in an environment where everybody lifts each other up. I can’t wait to now be the one who gets to return the favour!

If I’m not at the studio you can find me on the ski hill or getting lost somewhere on a hiking trail.

She joined Wildheart in 2017 after a snowboard injury and quickly developed a love for ballet barre. With a background in competitive gymnastics, movement through dance seemed like the perfect cross training for her two loves of snowboarding in the winter and golfing in the summer. Her extensive time in the studio led her to begin teaching barre in 2020.
